Proper has been active at NEC his whole life. In the Goffert, the midfielder broke through at a young age, and then promoted to the Eredivisie in 2021. Since then, he has grown with the club and become a respected midfielder at the highest level. However, the cards were shuffled again for Proper last season. Under trainer Dick Schreuder, NEC had a sensational season, but it came at the cost of Proper's playing time. The midfielder came less and less into play, due to the good play of Kodai Sano, who is unchallenged. Since the Japanese player is waiting for a top transfer, the door in De Goffert remains wide open. Proper has a contract for one more season and Schreuder wants to keep him in the team, but can leave Nijmegen if the right amount is offered. Apparently, a sum of around €1.5 million is being asked for the player. SC Heerenveen and Sparta Rotterdam have already shown interest in Proper. The interest in Proper is not surprising. Sparta-trainer Rogier Meijer worked with Proper for years when he was still at the helm in Nijmegen. As for Heerenveen, the interest has to do with the fact that they are looking to strengthen their midfield with Joris van Overeem and Marcus Lindsay. On both Van Overeem (FC Utrecht) and Lindsay (Sporting Braga), Heerenveen turned down bids in the past weeks. However, it is likely that there will still be action around the duo. And then Proper is a replacement who will likely be there immediately. Although a longer stay at NEC is not ruled out.
