New Captain in the Leeuwen
In an unexpected move, Heerenveen's head coach Robin Veldman has appointed a new captain for the team. Central defender Maas Willemsen will now wear the armband after taking it from midfielder Luuk Brouwers, who had served as captain during his tenure.
Reason for the Change
Veldman explained to Leeuwarder Courant why he made this change: 'It is an honor for him, and I believe Maas can handle it well,' Veldman said. 'He has a lot of experience at the cornerstone of our club and knows how important the captain's role is.'
Willemsen himself is also enthusiastic about his new role: 'I am very happy with this opportunity. It is a great honor for me to be named captain, and I will do my best to lead the club and my teammates in the right direction.'
