Heerenveen has won the first edition of the Simmer Cup by defeating Greek side Volos FC 3-2. The Frisians remain unbeaten in the preseason. The home team took the lead after a quarter of an hour through a converted penalty by Vente. The ball went on the spot because Machine was brought down during a dribble. Shortly after, the margin was doubled. Machine thought he had scored his first goal for his new club, but the ball was still touched by a Greek: 2-0. Not even ten minutes later, Vente ensured that the margin was two again. He headed a ball into the net after a good pass from Proper. In the 85th minute, the Greeks did something back again. Fabio shot from a distance. Heerenveen, however, managed to secure the win, keeping the Simmer Cup in Fryslân. Heerenveen currently stands in 8th place in the Eredivisie, with 44 points from 30 games. The team has scored 53 goals and conceded 50. Heerenveen is 30 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven. The next match for Heerenveen is against Ajax on January 31, 2027.
