Dirk Proper Leaves NEC for Heerenveen, Club Expresses Sadness

With a heavy heart, NEC has said goodbye to Dirk Proper. The midfielder, who was an important figure at the club, is moving to Heerenveen after his contract expired.
Dirk Proper played for four seasons in the Abe Lenstra Stadium and was a fan favorite among supporters. He lost his starting position last season to Darko Nejasmic, leading to this transfer to Heerenveen.
Heerenveen has signed Proper as a replacement for Joris van Overeem, who is now at FC Utrecht. Johan Hansma, Proper's teammate at Heerenveen, is delighted with the signing: "Dirk is a player who, despite his age, already has a lot of experience. He brings calm to the ball, has excellent insight and is strong in passing. We are convinced that he will fit perfectly into our playing style." Proper signs for four seasons.
NEC Director Carlos Aalbers Reacts
Carlos Aalbers, director of NEC, gave a reaction on the club's website: "If anyone has a club heart, it's Dirk. I have never experienced such loyalty from any player as with him and that's why it hurts to see him leave us. He was always an excellent poster boy and an example for many. When Dirk indicated he wanted to make this step, we had no doubts about working together. He deserves it more than anyone else and so we wish him success in his new career." Aalbers hopes Proper will have a successful career.
Heerenveen remains active on the transfer market. They are also working to bring Cedric Hatenboer (Anderlecht) into midfield, where Marcus Linday (SC Braga) seems likely to depart.
