After SC Heerenveen faces Volos NFC on Saturday, coach Dick Lukkien criticizes the behavior of the Greek team. The coach was dissatisfied after a match against FC Groningen where the Greeks did not behave well.

Lukkien says: "At one point I said to Casper Goedkoop (assistant coach, red.): This is something we don't want next year anymore", following the match result against Volos. "What's going on? We had that thought in the stands too."

The coach sees Greek teams as a risk for making 'crazy things' and committing fouls. "If you come from Greece as a football team, then you apparently do crazy things and commit all kinds of crazy fouls", he states.

Lukkien concludes: "The question is whether you want to accept that. And I don't think so, so if it's up to me we won't play against Greek teams anymore."

The Situation at FC Groningen

FC Groningen also faced unsportsmanlike behavior from the Greeks in a previous match. Tyrique Mercera received a blow and Jorg Schreuders was trampled on, which irked Lukkien.

Future Competition Implications

If FC Groningen no longer wants to play against Greek teams, other Eredivisie clubs will also need to consider whether they want to accept this. This could mean fewer international matches in the future.
